Greenwashing: A Primer

The increasing popularity of green products and services has led to greenwashing. Greenwashing is the practice of making unwarranted or overblown claims of environmental friendliness in an attempt to sell a product or service. It refers to advertising that cheats consumers about a product’s environmental features. It also occurs when companies deliberately frame their activities as “green” in order to look environmentally friendly.  This paper provides a brief introduction to the greenwashing phenomenon.
