A Study on the Impact of Foreign Direct Investments on Agriculture and Allied Activities

The agriculture sector in India is the main source of livelihood for majority of the rural population. Indian agriculture sector accounts for 18 per cent of India's gross domestic product (GDP). Since Independence, the government of India has been striving hard for the development of the agricultural sector. One of the notable achievements in the agriculture sector in recent years is the inflows of foreign direct investment. Government announced policies that indicated the improvisation of the agricultural sector with the permission of 100% foreign direct investment in the agricultural sector through automatic route. This paper endeavors to analyze the efforts and policies if Indian Government to attract FDI to the agriculture sector and its impact on same.
